Six Pack is Back!!
As some of you know this past winter I broke my foot. Well torn my Lisfranc, had to have 2 surgeries, be on crutches for 8 weeks, and wear a fugly-rocking boot for 6 weeks to be exact. Yeah, not fun. Needless to say my injury limited and sometimes stop me from working out all together.
I’m no body builder, but I’ve always prided myself on maintaining a semi-athletic looking physique. So naturally when I stop working out my body wasted no time shedding muscle. I wasn’t devestated because I knew that there are much worse things that can happen in life.
Once I recovered from my injury hitting the gym was definitley on my mind. I hadn’t had a hard core work out since late 2010 and my body was itching to be pushed. While my mind was telling me yes, my bum foot told me HELL NO.
While I was off crutches and no longer had to wear that dreadful boot, the muscles in my foot apparently diminished along with all of the other muscles. Who knew that foot musceles were that important. So after consulting with my podiatrist I began exercises that involved limited pressure on my feet. Biking, elliptical, yoga, and core exercises all provided me with an awesome workout.
So 6 month after tearing my Lisfranc, losing tons of body muscle, and revamping my workout….. my six pack is finally back. Say it loud ” I gotta six pack and I’m proud”
I’m not one to brag, but as you can probably tell my journey to getting fabulous abs is far from the normal story.
Here’s the video that I modeled my core workout after

Popchips….Popchiiiiiips.
Remember that Taco Bell commercial that used the made up word “cruncheweesy” in an attempt to mash all the positive adjectives that described the crunch warp? Well, I’m going to use the word fabulish ( Faboulous + Delicious) to describe PopChips.
I first became familiar with Popchips when the search for the new VP of Popchips exploded on Facebook. Ashton Kutcher’s hilarious promo video immediately grabbed my attention.
Since then I’ve seen Popchips in several corner and grocery stores. Being that I’m fairly frugal I’ve never bought the chips because I didn’t want to risk wasting my money on another healthy snack food that tasted like paper. Fortunately for me, Popchips was nice enough to send a sample pack to test out.
Let me just say that these ingenious little morsel are worth ever penny ( FYI – I’ve since bought 5 or 6 bags).
Right now there are 7 different flavors including: original, barbecue, cheddar, sour cream and onion, sea salt and vinegar, salt and pepper, and parmesan garlic. The only flavor I wasn’t vibing with was the sea salt and vinegar. I think this is because the texture of normal sea salt and vinegar chips are usually more coarse and crunchy, whereas Popchips are light and airy.
But despite that one “not-so-fabulish” flavor all the other chips are stellar, affordable, and only 120 calories per bag . Not only are Popschips a low-cal snack, but they also have no trans fat, no saturated fat, no cholesterol, and no preservatives.

Style Network’s Suncreen PSA : Yes African Americans Need Sunscreen Too
The Style Network recently released a skin cancer PSA featuring a group of female celebrities including three African Americans: Brandy, Tatyana Ali, and Temptest Bledsoe (Vanessa from the Cosby Show) . The announcement compared leaving the housing without sunscreen to leaving the house without clothes on- don’t let it happen
Skin cancer is often associated with Caucasians and other low-melinin ethnicities. While incidents of skin cancers are 10 times higher among Whites, African Americans who do contract Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, have a far lower survival rates than Whites – according to a study by the University of Michigan. The study also found that 63% of African American adults have never used sunscreen .
African American have a natural SPF built into their skin, but that doesn’t mean sunscreen isn’t needed. Dermatoligist and other medical professionals suggest that African Americans wear at least SPF 15 whenever going outside. Since African American come in as many colors as the rainbow, the SPF number differs according their complexion. To find out what coverage your skin type needs visit: Care2.com
Also, there are several things that you need to keep in mind when choosing a sunscreen for African American skin
- Avoid sunscreens containing zinc or titanium dioxide. Both these chemicals leave a white cast on the skin.
- If you plan on swimming or sweating, choose a water-proof sunscreen.
- Always use SPF 15 or higher depending on your skin type
- Use a sunscreen that contains avobenzone, moisturizer, to keep skin vibrant.

Mental Motivation:: “I Could” – Yonas
**Major side note** So usually I only post thing relating to women and fitness, but I felt compelled to post this song, ” I Could” by Yonas. This song is my motivation right now. If you’re not familiar with Yonas, get with it. This boy can spit and has something to say.
I’m not a huge hip-hop head, but these lyrics are dope. Spot on to what I’m personally going through right now. If you’re going through a rough patch, dip, or what ever you want to call it I suggest that you listen to this song. Music is motivation and this song takes it to the next level.
Enough of my side note. Back to your regularly scheduled program.
